Tod’Aérs Board Member H.E. Luis A. Salazar Moderates WSIS Panel on ICT, Climate Action and Sustainable Digital Transformation

Tod’Aérs Board Member His Excellency Luis A. Salazar participated in the World Summit on the Information Society [WSIS Process] and AI for Good in Geneva, Switzerland, where he moderated a high-level panel titled “Exploring the Environmental Footprint of the ICT Sector: From Standardized Measurement to Transition Plans.”
The session brought together experts from international organizations and the private sector to examine the environmental footprint of the Information and Communication Technology [ICT] sector, while also highlighting its growing role in accelerating climate solutions. Discussions focused on the need for standardized measurement, stronger emissions tracking, climate transition plans, and responsible digital transformation.
The panel explored how technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, and remote sensing can support climate action, biodiversity protection, environmental monitoring, and the decarbonization of key sectors including energy, agriculture, and land use. Participants also discussed how digital tools can strengthen the tracking of Nationally Determined Contributions [NDCs] and improve evidence-based environmental decision-making.
The discussion featured contributions from Laura Cyron, Economic Affairs Officer at UNCTAD; Jean-Manuel Canet, Senior Manager for Climate and Biodiversity at Orange; Rosendo Mañas Faura, Co-founder of Resilio; and Rosie McDonald, Climate Change Officer at ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau.
During his time in Geneva, H.E. Luis A. Salazar also engaged in meaningful exchanges with leaders involved in digital inclusion, technology, sustainability, gender equality, and global development, including representatives of the International Telecommunication Union and other international stakeholders present during the WSIS and AI for Good events.
